Ancient Theatre
Τhe construction of the theatre probably dates back to the Hellenistic period, but the remains visible today belong to the Roman phase of the monument. Preserved are the concave with seven marble rows of seats, the orchestra, the floor of the stage building, and many elaborate architectural parts. The clearing of the monument began in 1838 by French specialists. Excavations began in 1989 and revealed the earlier orchestra, the floor of the stage building and many architectural parts. The latter are currently being drawn and studied, so that the monument can be consolidated and restored. Despite the fact that research is not completed, the theatre is used for several performances
Catacombs
A Christian community cemetery dating from the end of the 2nd century A.C. and continuing in use to the end of the 5th century. It consists of a complex of three catacombs, comprising large, low passages with other smaller passages and a burial chamber joining. Passages join the three catacombs together. Niche-like graves (arcosolia) are cut into the side walls of the passageways; some of these were family graves. Graves were cut likewise into the floors of the passages. The graves are decorated with plant patterns and symbolic representations. The existence of the catacombs in Milos proves that the Christianity was very precociously propagated in the island and that the island constituted the bridge, via which was expanded the Christianity from Asia via the Hebrews tradesmen. In the island existed a jewish community. The catacombs were explored firstly by the German archaelogist L. Ross in 1844, then in 1877 the French archaeologist Bayet, in 1907 the G. Lampakis and finally in 1927 the G. Swtirioy. Today the archaeological area is partly visitable
